The TNT Minor Hockey Association is aware of recent social media posts regarding the OMHA's decision to disqualify our U13A team from playoff competition and feels it is important to address the misinformation that has been circulating.
This decision was not the result of a clerical or administrative error. The disqualification occurred because the head coach allowed an individual who he knew was not officially rostered with the team, and who did not possess the required qualifications, on the bench during competition.
This situation is a direct violation of Ontario Minor Hockey Association regulations. The ruling was made in accordance with OMHA policies after the individual in question was identified through a suspension issued to them. As such, the disqualification was mandatory under league rules.
According to OMHA Regulation
6.1 (e):• Any player or team official whose name appears on the official game report and/or participates in the game while ineligible for any reason will cause their team to forfeit the game, regardless of the score. The non-offending team shall be awarded two (2) points for the game.
TNT Minor Hockey deeply regrets the impact this situation has had on our players and their families. We are truly saddened by this outcome, as it is unfortunate for all those involved.
Yours in Hockey
Donna Horan
President, TNT
